Seeds and grains – Is it a trap?

After fruits and vegetables, the next most healthy food group are seeds and grains. Most seeds are good for the body, yet some of the grains cause inflammation and certain grains also cause celiac disease. Saying this there are grains that are gluten free and they are very good for you like quinoa.

Quinoa is a seed that is harvested from a tall, leafy plant that is not a cereal grass ― that's a relative of spinach, beets and chard. And so, quinoa is technically classified as a pseudo-cereal grain, along with amaranth and buckwheat.

Buying seeds is easy, they are either labeled organic or not. If they are not labeled, they are likely not organic and many of them GMO.

I only eat gluten free seeds like chia seeds, flex seeds, hemp seeds, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, etc. There is a big selection and you can always try them and find out which ones you prefer.

One of my favourites is chia seeds. Chia seeds are considered to be a super food. They originate from South America and it was a staple in the Aztec and the Mayan cultures. Chia seeds are full of protein but one the most important qualities is a perfect omega fatty acid ratio of 1 : 1, which mean they contain equal amount of Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids.

Hemp seeds are fantastic, they are the most powerful essential fatty acid. One teaspoon a day will give you your daily fatty acid intake.

Some of the gluten free grains that are good for you are quinoa, millet, amaranth etc.

Oats are on the borderline. There are gluten free oats available online or in the health food stores. Oats are very good for the skin. I tried to eat them for a year, but it just doesn’t agree with me. It is best to try and see if your body agrees with it.

I like quinoa and I can make many different dishes that are delicious.  Try substituting quinoa for rice occasionally.

Most grains contain gluten, like wheat, barley, rye, etc. I keep far away from anything that contains gluten. I don’t have celiac disease, but eating gluten containing products causes a lot of unhealthy inflammation in the body and they can lead to chronic illness.

In certain countries like the USA, they introduced dwarf grain that is giving higher yields, but it is super bad for the health. Practically they use this dwarf grain for a lot of food items especially processed food. Very few people know this, but this dwarf grain is responsible for celiac disease.

There is one thing I dare to eat when it comes to grains is organic raw sprouted grain breads. They are safe, healthy, rich and delicious. You can eat them with organic spreads, cheeses, fresh or fermented vegetables, etc.

Rice is the seed of the grass species Oryza sativa (Asian rice) or Oryza glaberrima (African rice). As a cereal grain, it is the most widely consumed staple food for a large part of the world's human population, especially in Asia.

Most people think that they need to eat brown rice to be healthy. According to Dr Chris Kresser organic white rice is much better for you. It is worthwhile to read his take on white rice.

After reading his research I am sticking with organic white rice. According to Ken Cohen Qigong master we need to eat a bowl of organic white rice every day.

Until next… have a great day
